Since Ancient Egypt humans have explored how to heal the body, to soothe, and also what types of soothing are best. It is also in Ancient Egypt where we find the first evidences of a culture applying what we know today as the massage. The massage has been a staple for healing in a number of cultures and countries: China, Japan, India, Greece, and the Middle East. The word massage comes from a number of languages as well. The French word massage is the direct translation that we in America and Britain use today and it means "friction of kneading". The Arabic massa "to touch, feel or handle", or the Latin massa "to touch, knead", as well as the Greek masso also can all be translated into what we know as massage.
We firmly believe that massage can improve your life by releasing so much of the stress and tension that we live with daily. The therapeutic value as well as the physical value are huge. We are going to now give a brief overview of the types of massages available at Radiance Spa.

Swedish
This therapy is probably one of the most common here in the United States. Swedish massage used five styles of strokes as part of the massage. They use sliding/gliding, kneading, rhythmic tapping, friction, and vibration/shaking. This massage helps with reducing pain, joint stiffness, and helps patients with osteoarthritis.
Deep Tissue
Deep Tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscles. This massage focuses deep down and is recommended for people in constant pain or athletes who repetitively repeat motions in the same muscle group. This type of massage is recommended in multiple sessions as it is counter productive to work the whole body in one session, instead you should work on area of the body at a time.
Sports
Also known as manual therapy, Sports massage is what it sounds like. This therapy helps to treat soreness and injuries in muscles and joints.
Shiatsu
Coming from the words "shi" meaning finger and "atsu" meaning pressure this Japanese treatment uses pressure, acupressure points and stretching to clear the energy meridians in the body so that energy can flow more freely. The simple explanation is that it is acupuncture without the needles.
Hot Stone
Instead of only using the hands to knead muscle and apply pressure to our acupuncture points, in Hot Stone Therapy the practitioner uses the stones to apply heat and pressure to the contact site. The heat helps to penetrate the area more deeply than our hands can.
****If you are having any pain or have any serious medical conditions we recommend that you talk with your massage therapist at the beginning of each session. This is why we ask you to fill out the forms that we do so that your experience brings you nothing but peace and tranquility.
