While Daiva and her team of experts are trained to know about their profession many people do not know what many of our services actually are and the benefits that are gleaned through the services.  To help educate the general public some of our blogs will offer explanations of these services and benefits.

Today we will be discussing Shirodhara.  The reason I chose Shirodhara is that I (Laura) had no clue what this was, let alone how to pronounce it.

The word Shirodhara is translated from Sanskirt works 'shira' which translates as head and 'dhara' meaning flow.  It is a form of Ayurveda traditional medicine.  Ayurveda or Life Knowledge stresses the concept of bringing our bodies natural elements into alignment.  Shirodhara was introduced as a way of calming and clearing our third eye, which is represented as being on our foreheads.  Shirodhara allows warm oil to flow over the forehead in various patterns depending on the therapy requested by the participant or suggested by the therapist. The flow of the oil was meant to calm, but is also meant to restore our mental clarity.

At Radiance Spa this treatment is available and can be combined with any Facial, Massage, or Detoxifying Body Wrap.

Last post we briefly discussed Coola Suncare and now we are going to expand on that theme. This weekend is Memorial Day. That typically means a weekend filled with fun and perhaps the first visit to the beach of the summer. While it is recommended that we all get 15 minutes of sun a day, that doesn't mean that we should leave our skin defenseless. Our skin is precious and every minute out in the sun can mean that we may have a visit to the dermatologist in the future.  While many of us believe that breast cancer is the number one form of cancer in America, it is actually skin cancer, when caught early it can quickly be taken care of in an outpatient surgery. However like most doctors visits the best thing to do is do as much preventative work as possible.

Tips for protecting your skin this weekend:

Sunblock- put this on before you leave your house. Most sunblocks need 20-30 minutes on your skin to be absorbed properly.

Sunblock again every two hours- sunblock and sunscreen only lasts so long, if you have done a lot of sweating you may wish to reapply earlier.

Drink extra water- most people are dehydrated and this plays heck with your skin. Be nice and drink extra water while you play so that your skin stays hydrated from the inside out.

Wear a hat or scarf to protect your more delicate skin.

Don't forget to take care of your scalp. Parts and thinning areas should also have sunscreen applied.

What if I already have a burn?

Moisturizer it- aloe, after sun products, and moisturizers should all be applied to the affected areas. If you end up with blisters you should be careful with the area and possibly schedule an appointment with your doctor.

Drink extra water- yep we did already discuss this but it applies. The thinner your blood is the easier it will be for it to get to the affected areas. Limit alcohol as it can dehydrate you.

And now the lecture will end. And now remember for this weekend a few wise words.

Hopefully you read the blog about Daiva.  As an aesthetician she spends a lot of time working with various products and going to shows where new products can be found.  Daiva also knows that quality products help skin to look and feel its very best.  That is why she has chosen Hylunia and Coola as two of the brands that Radiance Spa sells.

Hylunia

These products are designed by nature to be anti-inflammatory, as well as being vegan and cruelty free.  Family owned this company began with a father's love for his daughter.  His daughter has very sensitive skin and as he began looking for products that wouldn't irritate her skin he found that very little was out there.  As he was a scientist he began working with other professionals to create Hylunia in 1988.

Whether you have adult acne, or the beginnings of wrinkles, or full out wrinkles Hylunia has products that will protect and heal your skin.  Celebrity such as Omar Miller, Miguel Nunez, Jr., and Ariel Winter have trusted their skin to Hylunia.  For more information or a consultation as to which products might be best for your skin call to set up an appointment with Daiva today!

Coola

One of the newest products the spa will be offering is Coola Sunscreen.  Coola is organic, safe and unique.  Combining the power of nature with the science of skin protection Coola is one awesome brand.

Coola products are enjoyed by celebrities and people who understand that the health of their skin is of the utmost importance.
